Debra, an intellectual property attorney registered with the United States Patent and Trademark office, focuses her practice on patent, trademark, and copyright prosecution and is part of MKL’s litigation group. She maintains specialties in the automotive, high performance, and racing industries, primarily working with manufacturers of engine and chassis components, electronics, and high performance wheels. With a hands-on engineering and automotive background, Debra can truly relate to the inventors and clients she works with on a regular basis.

After earning a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in physics with minors in biology and mathematics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1988, Debra served as an aerospace engineer for 8 years at McDonnell Douglas Corporation. She went on to complete her law degree at the St. Louis University School of Law in 1998 after initially attending the University of Montana School of Law. Prior to joining MKL in 2009, Debra practiced in several intellectual property boutiques in Chicago, Illinois before moving to Kansas where she served as an associate at Shughart Thomson & Kilroy, P.C. Debra is licensed in the states of Missouri, Kansas, and Illinois and practices in both state and federal courts.she has assisted multiple clients to successfully obtain preliminary injunctions in trademark and patent infringement matters. In addition, Debra assists with business mergers and acquisitions in the area of intellectual property due diligence and complex business litigation matters.
